The Mattress World

Posted by Ryan Woods

There is this little store here in the NW called Mattress World. Like most mattress stores they have really cheesy commercials with cheesy songs and family members making their acting debut. The reason I bring this up is because for years Mattress World has been advertising with their catchy little jingle "It's not too late to sleep like a baby...mattress world!" It's catchy, the jingle sticks with you, and I would bet that 9 out of 10 people who hear it remember it. But wait a second! Hold on one long minute! It's not too late to sleep like a baby? Who wants to sleep like a baby? They cry all freaking night! There's too much poo in their pants. They've got teeth coming in and it hurts. They have ear infections. They have developed a new skill that keeps them awake (standing, rocking, crawling, etc.). They miss their mother. They're hungry. They're hot and sweaty. They're cold and clammy. They weren't held enough that day.
I could go on and on, these are all reasons (from a book that my wife just read) why babies often do not sleep. Is that what Mattress World wants their listeners to associate with their products? My guess is that Jon Mattress (the owner of Mattress World) doesn't have any kids, or if he did, he didn't help much during their nighttime troubles. Maybe a better slogan would be "It's not too late to sleep like a bad father...Mattress World!" I kid, I kid. Poor advertising I think.

That's just like the NyQuil commercials: you'll sleep like a baby. Like a log. Like you did before you had kids... or like you're arwen doped up on paxil and benedryl... same thing really...

NyQuill . . . plus baby . . . that sounds like a good idea . . . wait . . . No, it might work on the baby, but it is probably frowned upon by child care authorities.

haha... kind of like baby + glue + bottle of rum + Scarface= Hilarity Ensues...

bah!!!! this is AWESOME!!!
