People already cry when they read this book. A mother holds her little baby boy and sings to him "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always. As long as you're living my baby you'll be." The pages go on as the boy grows older and older and becomes a man. Eventually one day the mother grows old and can no longer sing the sing. And so her son, the grown man, sings to his mother "I'll love you forever. I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living my mother you'll be." The story ends with the son singing this same song to his infant daughter. Heart wrenching right? Touching right?

Well you don't know the half of it!

Robert Munsch, the author, wrote the little song long before he ever made the book. He sang that song in his head for years because he wrote it for his two children that were still born. That song was his special song for them and it was years before he was able and willing to share his song with the world. If that doesn't make you tear up I don't know what will.

well great, just great. they read this book to us at the end of our childbirth prep class, and i was the lone pregnant chick who was weeping all pathetically. and it's not like it was the first time i'd heard it.

we bought it to read to kaia...now i'm doomed to be weepy for life!

Ryan youre such a liar! You totaly made that up! I have heard the real story about Robert Munsch and that aint it. Why do you always have to lie and on your blog nonetheless...all these helpless readers.

This book always gets me. Borders asked me to read it at storytime once - no can do. The poor kids would be traumatized.

Hope your family of 4 is thriving. {And by that I mean, I hope you are getting some sleep, sometimes.}

I poop on this book. Who doesn't love their kid?!

I'm not quite sure why Ashtin's pooping on this book...but, eat my shorts tara:

Thanks Ryan, I don't even try to read this book to the boys. Ron and Nathan laugh at me everytime. i hope you aren't being a liar about his story behind the song...I am going to look it up now!

ironic you write this because I was reading this book the other day to Aiden and was crying and Nez and I were discussing how sad it is. Great, I'll never be able to read it again. Thanks.

Hey I love this book. I gave it to my mom years ago.

Ryan... I, much like your wife, am without a heart. That is why I poop on this book. Plus, it is really creepy when she is sneaking into his room. In all honesty, the pictures scare me. Perhaps if it wasn't a picture book I would like it- or feel something about it. The story behind the story is REALLY sad though.

two thumbs and thinks that perhaps Ashtin has been drinking again?

this girl.

well done. great job.

Yeah, I like this book. But i only read it to Liam when Jeb isn't home. He thinks it is SO funny that I have never been able to make it through this book without some tears. I like knowing the story behind it even though it is sad. What a great guy...and what a beautiful story he has shared with all moms and dads out there.

I think I'm a girl.

When I read books like this, my eyes water. I can't help it. I think of the emotion behind this story (even though it's a little creepy) and I can't wait to experience the love that goes behind that.

When Jess (who is dead inside) read Gina and I this book last thursday, I immediately started writing the music that goes with that song. I think I'll record it on GarageBand in the next couple of weeks so I can play it for my baby when it comes.
