Makes me sick enough to spew

Posted by Ryan Woods

People are dying in lesser developed countries because of malnourishment and lack of clean water. It has been reported, though, that an annual increase in preventative care to the tune of 75 cents per person in the Third World could save 5 million lives every year. That would take less than 3 billion.
Sound like a lot of money?
The National Center for Health Statistics reported that the US spends between 30-50 BILLION each year on diets and related expenditures to reduce their calorie intake.
In other words...
we spend more money to stop stuffing ourselves than it takes to feed and water 5 million starving people.
Does that make you sick?

I am currently tired of people who i know make like 60k a year say Oh I don't have any money. Give me a break.

that does make me sick...it makes me sicker that i just bought a work out video this morningand i am adding to that statistic. but i am adopting from ethiopia so that kinda cancels it out.

Sort of puts our wealthy American lifestyles in perspective, that's for sure. Julie and I were just talking about money last night, in light of the fact that we generally don't seem to have a lot of it and that figure may be going down a little more when we plant in West Salem.

All that to say...it sort of seems pathetic to whine about money when we live in our culture. Lately, we've been trying to spend less on the frivaless and more on things that matter.
